Jill is 79. When she first came to us she could barely walk more than a few steps. She now lifts a 32kg kettlebell for reps and plays squash twice a week. This is her story.

Until mid-2021 Jill had been active her whole life. Horse riding, gardening, gym sessions, squash with her brother. Then severe lower back pain arrived and took all of it.
The cause, she was told, was arthritis damage and bone pressing on her sciatic nerve. She tried physiotherapy. Then osteopathy. Then acupuncture. Then spinal injections from a consultant. Nothing provided lasting relief. Surgery was assessed and ruled out. Her GP had reached the limits of what pain relief could offer.
She was bent when she walked. Short distances only. Sleep was a struggle. The life she had built around movement and activity was disappearing.
In that first session we didn’t start with her back. We started with her whole system, assessing every layer, looking for what had been missed rather than treating where the pain was.
What we found were muscle compensations her body had built up over time, protective patterns her nervous system had locked in to guard against a threat it still believed was present. Her back wasn’t broken. It was protecting itself.
By the end of that session, something had shifted. Not dramatically, not theatrically, but enough that Jill left with something she hadn’t felt in a long time. Hope.
Weekly sessions followed, each one different from the last because the body changes as it heals and the work has to change with it. Exercises were manageable and built progressively. The compensations unwound. The nervous system learned it was safe.
Within months the constant pain was gone. She was sleeping in any position. Doing jobs around the house she hadn’t been able to manage. Moving better than she had in years, better, her family told her, than before the pain started.
Three years on, Jill lifts a 32kg kettlebell for reps. She plays squash twice a week with her brother. She continues with weekly maintenance sessions not because she needs to, but because she knows what her body is capable of now and she isn’t finished yet.
My first meeting with Sam gave me hope. He identified muscle compensations and explained what had been happening. Weekly sessions have been different each time, reflecting the changes in my body. I now have no constant pain, I function normally, better than before, and I sleep in any position. Sam has also helped other issues along the way, including my left shoulder and something I’d had my whole life. I could never close my right eye independently. After one session, I could.
If you’ve been told there’s nothing more that can be done, or that you simply have to manage your pain, Jill’s story isn’t an exception. It’s what happens when the actual cause is found and corrected rather than the symptom being treated in isolation.
The first step is a diagnostic session. Fifty minutes to assess your whole system, identify what’s driving your symptoms, and tell you exactly what we find. No obligation to continue. Just answers.
If your back pain has not responded to treatment focused on your back, the driver is probably elsewhere. We test your entire nervous system, find the neurological cause and resolve it. Book a Diagnostic session and get clarity on what is actually happening. Based in Shiremoor, Newcastle. Serving North Tyneside and surrounding areas. Sessions available this week.
